What makes a good eye cream

For better or for worse, our eyes “say” a lot. Unfortunately, eye issues can really affect how people perceive you, giving the wrong impression of how you’re feeling (like dark circles or eye bags making you appear tired or sick) to showing your age/aging you prematurely (like crow’s feet or fine lines under the eyes).

Hydration

In order to minimize the appearance of minor age related changes under the eyes, hydration is key in an eye cream. Hydrated skin is plumper, looks healthier, and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, whereas dry skin highlights imperfections. As we age, our skin naturally holds less moisture, which is one of the factors in aging skin. Ingredients to look for: hyaluronic acid, peptides, squalane.

Anti-aging benefits

Look for anti-aging ingredients in your eye cream no matter how old you are. The eye area is often one of the first (if not the first) areas to show signs of aging. The under eye especially is a very delicate area. Your eye area including corner, under eye, and upper lids undergo a lot of movement when smiling, squinting, etc, which eventually leads to the development of fine lines and wrinkles. You want something that will firm the skin and help strengthen it against further damage. So whether you’re in your 20’s, 40’s, 60’s or more, anti-aging benefits are something you should always have in your eye creams. Ingredients to look for: collagen, retinol, peptides, vitamin B3 (niacinamide).

Soothing ingredients

Besides age-related concerns, one of the most problematic eye issues is puffiness and dark circles. Soothing ingredients in eye creams can help tone down dark circles and reduce puffiness. Antioxidants for example are great at reducing free radical damage and providing an “energy” boost to your under eye area. They also brighten the skin. Ingredients to look for: Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Panthenol, and caffeine (often green tea is the source of caffeine)

Looking for a great all-around eye cream that takes into account all of these things PLUS includes the trifecta power of Arabian Jasmine, Hawthorn and Orchid Stem Cells to actually lift the upper eyelid?
